Summer seems to have a way to go by before you even realised it came around. Often times you hear about an amazing festival that you would have loved to attend all too late but it doesn’t have to be that way. We have rounded up a jam packed list of the biggest, best and most interesting events to reach in the wonderful city of Zurich, Switzerland. Each of them is just a car rental away from festival fun!
Date: 14th Aug- 13th Sept
Location: Europaplatz 1, 6005 Luzern, Switzerland
Classical music just became laughable! Humour is the theme for this year’s Lucerne Festival. Though not taking place in Zurich, shows on the line-up are set to be worth the 40min drive from the city. Rent a car from the airport to ease the journey. Expect performances from the likes of the BBC Proms Youth Choir, Puppets Theatre performing PETRUSCHKA (a tale of animals aimed at children) and Shakespeare’s comedy ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ reinterpreted by conductor Trevor Pinnock. Berlin, Boston and Bamberg Philharmonic orchestras will make an appearance each performing symphonies from the classical music hall of fame. A select number of free shows are also available.

Keep your stomach empty so you can indulge in Chinese dumplings, gourmet burgers, and scrumptious desserts. With 80 stalls selling cuisine from all over the world considerable effort is made to keep Zurich clean. Since its inception Street Food Festival has maintained a sustainable outlook. The organisers encourage festival goers to reuse and recycle tableware. You are advised to find parking for your car hire 10mins away from the venue as it will be highly congested. Once you arrive walk around to scope the place out before following your taste buds to gastronomic goodness!

Location: Various all over Zurich
Translated ‘Long Night of Zurich’s Museums’, it’s a chance for you to experience something close to the films of the same name – (obviously without the Zurich part). Between 46 locations across museums and cultural institutions there is certainly a need to take the car with you if you intend to mingle as much as you can. Choose from a range of exhibitions, tours, workshops and social events for all ages. One ticket will grant you entry to Zurich’s top museums including the Kunsthaus and the Museum Rietberg. Look out for refreshment stalls all around the city!

Location: the region around the Albisgüetli butts to the southwest of the city
The hills are alive with target-shooting! One of Zurich’s oldest traditions happens just outside of the city on a mountain side and guess what, it’s open to teens aged 13-17. Originally, Knabenschiessen was a training/scouting occasion designed to test young people before they joined the Swiss Army. Nowadays, the tradition has evolved to include a huge funfair complete with food everywhere you turn making it the perfect event for families.

This year’s festival will be the 11th edition of this highly esteemed filming event. Primarily geared towards German-language films the program boasts screenings, discussions and masterclasses. In previous years the festivals has had visitor numbers ranging in the 70 thousands. You can look forward to celebrity sightings for now as the program is set to be released early September.
